- Union Govt has approved 4900 Crores for interlinking of River Kosi and Mechi. This second largest after Ken-Betwa in MP.
- This project is Approved by MoEFCC (Environment Ministry). This diversion do not have any diversion of forest land, no national park, no wildlife sanctuary.
- This project Proposes diversion of surplus water of Kosi river through existing Hanuman Nagar Barrage to Mechi river of Mahananda Basin.
- Benefit: Control of flood in Seemanchal region of North Bihar. It will chanel surplus water in Kosi to Mahananda river and provide irrigation to 2.14 lakh hectare land in districts Kishanganj, Arariya, Purnea and Katihar.
