Pruning methods

Pruning methods are:

  • Thinning: Selective or complete removal of plant parts is termed as thinning.
  • Ringing or girdling: A circular ring measuring about 3 cm in length is removed to hasten bearing by allowing the greater accumulation of photosynthetic products in an upward portion of the plant. It is practiced in Grapes
  • Notching: A notch is made above a bud by removing a wedge shaped piece of bark. It checks the influence of hormones and encouraged growth.It is practiced in fig.
